You will be expected to attend a minimum of 3 days per week. You may be required to attend one evening per week until 21:00

Course Description
NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing is the starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in hairdressing. It covers the basic hairdressing treatments and services and begins to develop skills required for level 2.

Course Structure
Units covered include:

• Health and Safety
• Shampooing and conditioning
• Blow drying hair
• Assisting with hair colouring treatments.
• You will also begin to develop skills in cutting, setting and putting hair up.
• You will also study Key Skills which include Maths and English.

Course Assessment
Assessment will include practical observations on paying clients, written questions, mandatory online tests and building a portfolio of evidence.

Course Entry requirements

• 2 GCSEs grades G and above

• All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
• Strong interest in Hairdressing.
• Excellent personal presentation skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Take part in a practical activity to demonstrate manual dexterity.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Students will need to purchase a uniform and professional hairdressing kit

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Course Progression
NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing - full time or Apprenticeship

Course Career Prospects
This qualification will give you opportunities to gain employment as a junior in a hair dressing salon. After further study you could consider many career options including setting up your own business, working on cruise liners, health farms.
