Computing AS/A2
This course will appeal to you if you want to find out about how computers work and how software is developed. You will develop an understanding of systems analysis and design, development methods and what is involved in testing, implementing and documenting computer-based solutions to problems.

What will I study?
AS: You will look at core aspects of computer systems, including practical skills covering the 'life cycle' of computer applications: design, development, testing and implementation.

A2: You will build on the skills developed in the AS and also study programming paradigms and databases. You will look at project management, simulation, real-time processing and networks. You will also carry out a project in which you will apply your knowledge to a real life situation and evaluate the results.

If you want to develop advanced level Maths skills alongside Computing but don't want to study a full Maths A Level, why not think about adding a Free Standing Maths Unit to your programme?

How will I be assessed?
AS: 1 written and 1 practical exam at the end of year one.

A2: 1 written examination at the end of year two, plus a coursework project.

What can I do next?
