Why should I study Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA)?
For an increasing number of people, producing digital applications is the way they make a living. DiDA will give you a solid grounding in the skills you need, enabling you to go on to further study or to go into the workplace with the relevant skills. You could develop a career in the creative side of new media, technical areas of IT, Sales & Marketing and other areas.

The DiDA suite of four qualifications is unique in its scope, philosophy and delivery methods. It comprises:

  • AiDA - Award in Digital Applications (Unit 1 only) - equivalent to 1 GCSE
  • CiDA - Certificate in Digital Applications (Unit 1 plus any other unit) - equivalent to 2 GCSEs
  • CiDA+ - Extended Certificate in Digital Applications (Unit 1 plus any other two units) - equivalent to 3 GCSEs
  • DiDA - Diploma in Digital Applications (Unit 1 plus any other three units) - equivalent to 4 GCSEs.


What will be studied on the course?

Using ICT
In this unit you will learn how to present information clearly and effectively so it communicates the message you want to convey using word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.

Multimedia
In this unit you will learn how to collect your own sounds, images, videos and photographs, for example, and then manage the process of putting them together to create something new.

Graphics
In this unit, you will look at the ways in which graphics are used, create your own original designs and learn how to capture material to use in your own work.

ICT in Enterprise
In this unit you will learn to identify potential opportunities, do financial planning, market research and create a visual identity for an enterprise, working as a member of a team.

When does the course start and how long does it last?
This is a one year course running from September to June.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?
You need to have four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths or Science to do the Level 2 qualification.

Where is the course based?
The course is delivered at our Consett campus.

How will the learner be assessed?
DiDA is assessed at level one or level two according to your ability providing full GCSE A* - G equivalence. Learners can combine different units and levels. There is no timed examination and you will be assessed entirely on a portfolio of work which must be done in college. A Summative Project Brief (SPB), published on the DiDA website, must be completed for each unit. All of your work will be stored and handed in electronically; homework will usually take the form of research and planning.

How much will the course cost?
There should be no additional costs on this course. Textbooks relating to the course are available for loan from our Learning Resource Centre.

What progression routes are available?
On successful completion of this course you could progress to:

  • BTEC National Diploma in IT
  • other level 3 courses
  • a work based apprenticeship
  • directly into employment
