Course Description
You will develop an in-depth working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body which will provide a basis for learning advanced massage techniques; assessment, management and rehabilitation of injuries and the provision of aftercare advice.

This course requires high levels of commitment and previous knowledge in the area to successfully gain competence and go on to a career in the profession.

You will be required to complete a relevant work placement in a physiotherapy department, sports injuries clinic or sports club. We have industry contacts to help organise placements within league football clubs and rugby clubs, local gyms and fitness centres.

You will provide treatments for local sports clubs and the Centre for Football Development at Craven College and will also visit Premiere League Football clubs to support Football Aid, a nationwide charity, to prepare players for their game and offer first aid. You will be required to pay for your own uniform and kit and to have a CRB check (approx cost £40).

Additional Qualifications VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Swedish Body Massage VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Non Medical Nutritional Advice VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety and Security in the workplace HSE appointed First Aid course

Course Length and Study Pattern
1 year Full-time. Students have to commit to a large amount of home study and independent research, approximately 10- 12 hours per week. You will be expected to organise and maintain your working portfolios and attend external examinations.

Work Experience
You will be required to complete a relevant work placement i.e. Physio Department, Sports Injuries Therapist, Sports Club. We have some contacts to organise placements within league football clubs and links with local gyms/fitness centres that are happy to take students on placement but you are expected to organise this yourselves.

Assessment
Assessment is carried out in a number of ways:

Preparation of a portfolio of evidence including assignments
Ongoing practical assessment
Completion of workbooks
Externally and Internally set examinations

Trips and Enrichment Activities
You wil be invited to provide treatments for local sports clubs and the Centre for Foootbal Development at Craven College. You will support Football Aid, a nationwide charity attending Premiership Football clubs to prepare players for a game and give first aid if required. You may also support local team ie basketball or running clubs and attend half marathons to offer massages after competition.
