Course Content:
Subjects studied will include:
- Childhood illness
- Working with young children
- Play and the young child
Optional units will include:
- Work with babies
- Skills for employment
You will also have the opportunity to achieve certificates in food hygiene and first aid. If you are available for only part of the week please contact us and we will endeavour to accommodate you.

Work Experience / Practical Experience:
Two days per week in a nursery, school and the home.

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts. All applicants will be required to complete a CRB check at interview in line with the Safeguarding policies of both the department and of any settings that may be used as work placements. Any issues that arise as a result of these checks may affect the outcome of the offer of a place but will be assessed on an individual basis.
Assessment:
Each unit is assessed by assignment with a final multiple-choice question paper. One unit of the course will be assessed in the workplace.
Progression Routes:
Progression to the full-time CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3 (in some cases directly onto the second year) or the work-based NVQ Level 3.
Career Options:
Employment can be gained as nursery assistants in a school or day nursery, or as a nanny or mother's help.
