The Course
This work-related programme of study includes both the vocational knowledge and practical skills required in the hospitality sector. Students gain experience in our kitchens, restaurants, bar and reception office. They also complete a four week placement in a local establishment.

Course Content
The units of study include:

• Basic culinary skills
• Serving food and drink
• Planning and running an event
• Accommodation and front office studies
• Healthy lifestyles
• Safety in hospitality
• Customer relations in hospitality

Assessment/Exams
Assessment involves the building of a portfolio of evidence including the completion of assignments.

Progression/Career Path
Students can gain employment in a wide range of establishments including restaurants, hotels, conference centres, contract catering companies and health care. Students can also progress on to the BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality course.

Entry Requirements
Qualifications Required
Four GCSEs at grade D-G or Level 1 qualification with tutor recommendation or Foundation Diploma in a relevant subject.

Additional Entry Criteria
Mature students, without formal qualifications, may gain entry with other achievements including experience of paid/unpaid employment.

Experience Required
Not essential but recommended before the start of the course.
