Introduction
This is an elementary level full-time course for 16-19 year olds who have recently come to live in the UK and English is not their first language. This is the 3rd stage of our ESOL PLUS courses.

Description
The course focuses on English language acquisition within topic-based contexts that are relevant to young people e.g. sport, leisure and popular culture. Development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills is our priority so that learners can feel confident in communicating and responding appropriately in real-life situations. Study skills are developed to allow learners to progress to higher level training. Citizenship, Geography, History and Science is embedded into the course. Learners are assessed for numeracy and placed on an appropriate level City and Guilds Numeracy qualification (entry, level 1 or 2) They are also assessed for ICT skills and complete an ICT programme and qualifications: START IT for ESOL, ESOL CLAIT and ESOL CLAIT PLUS Learners take Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life externally assessed and accredited examinations at entry 2 in speaking, listening, reading and writing in January or June. A varied tutorial and enrichment programme covers issues relevant to young people and a number of interesting and challenging day trips and activities.
