The Course
On the floristry courses you will study all aspects of the floristry trade, which include florists terminology, botany, plant identification and care, flower/ foliage identification and care.

Course Content
You will also learn how to plan, prepare and construct floral designs which include various funeral designs, wedding designs, general every day arrangements, popular tied designs and the more intricate techniques of wired wedding work. You will also study the colour wheel and the effect of harmonies, how to interpret the principles of elements of design and how to optimise and photograph practical work. Communication skills with customers and fellow workers are important.
You will also be taught how to record crucial information, process various ways of payments, why health and safety regulations must be adhered to,including fire prevention and COSHH, Sale of Goods Act, develop your personal skills, window displays, learn to interpret competition designs, stock ordering and rotation, how to cost stock and orders from a single flower to function and contract work, business skills, how accessories can enhance designs.
You will also learn skills to help you create and build a portfolio of your work.

Assessment/Exams
With our NVQ courses there are no exams - you and your work will be continually assessed throughout your progression. You will be assessed through observation and examination of work, oral questions, set projects and task sheets. Your assessments will take place in various locations, such as College workshop, College retail shop and in your work placements.

Progression/Career Path
The course is an excellent platform for entry into the floristry profession, leading into commercial work and demonstrations to flower clubs. We can also offer you the opportunity to continue your studies at NVQ Level 3. This years additional studies include advanced and modern floristry techniques and business studies.
