The Course
This course is designed to prepare people for working as a painter and decorator. It has been developed to develop and practise the required skills and obtain the necessary knowledge to work in the trade.
Successful candidates can then progress to covering the full range of competencies demanded by the NVQ schemes, either directly in the workplace or through an Apprenticeship framework. If you want to be a qualified painter or decorator, then this is the course for you.

Course Content
The craft-based course will provide you with a wide range of practical painting and decorating skills and job-related knowledge in:

• Storing materials and equipment
• Erecting, dismantling and safe use of basic working platforms
• Working efficiently
• Preparing surfaces for decorating
• Applying a variety of oil and water based paints
• Applying paint material by brush and roller
• Decorative paint techniques including graining and marbling
• Application of plain and patterned wallpapers to walls and ceilings
• Key Skills

An external Health and Safety test is a compulsory part of the qualification and is required for the award of the Technical Certificate.

Assessment/Exams
Assessment is based on assignments covering both practical and theory aspects of the curriculum.

Progression/Career Path
The Level 2 Diploma prepares students for work in their particular occupation. This course provides knowledge of all aspects of painting and decorating and prepares students for entering employment or progressing on to the Level 3 Diploma and attaining NVQ qualifications.
