Course Content
You will study units including Fundamentals of Science Criminal Psychology Forensics Evidence Collection and Analysis Scientific Practical Techniques Physiology of Human Body Systems Medical physics techniques Perceptions of science The essential skills of communication, numeracy and ICT are an integral part of this course. If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
Course Aims
The course provides a work related qualification which is relevant to the needs of local science-based employers. Students will have the opportunity to visit science-based industries and attend sessions delivered by guest speakers from PSNI. Students will participate in simulated crime scene investigations.

Achievements/Qualifications
The course is equivalent to 3 A levels and is acceptable for university entrance to a wide range of science-related degree courses. Students complete 9 units each year and obtain the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science after two years. It is possible to obtain a BTEC Award on completion of 6 units in the first year.
Progression Routes
The programme will prepare students for university entrance and study of science at a higher level. Alternatively students may seek employment as technicians in forensics laboratories, science industries, hospital laboratories, school laboratories, scenes of crime work with the PSNI, or a range of science-related careers.
