About this course

This one-year full-time course requires a strong desire to work in the construction industry. Mature students are also welcome.You will be asked to undertake a short assessment of your numeracy and communication skills to determine the support you require to be successful on this course and also an assessment to test your aptitude for Construction.

Aim of course
Emphasis is placed on gaining practical experience in some of the tasks likely to be undertaken in each of the six different vocational areas of bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, electrics, plumbing and painting & decorating that will allow the learner to specialise in his/her preferred craft.

What will the course involve?
You will learn a mixture of theory and practical skills in all areas and will also study for a BTEC Introductory Certificate in Construction and Key Skills in literacy and numeracy (if aged under 19 yrs).

Course Content
Students will have the opportunity to experience six different vocational areas: bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, electrics, plumbing and painting & decorating through a mixture of theory and practical teaching. This, coupled with the secondary qualification which is the BTEC Introductory Certificate in Construction, teaches students about career options in construction and provides health and safety training which will make progression onto another construction course easier.

What can I do afterwards?
Students can look to progress onto a full-time college course, a Level 1 diploma or an apprenticeship.
