About this course

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at C including Maths, English and Science or a relevant level 2 qualification/BTEC First Diploma in an engineering/automotive subject. All applicants will be assessed as to their suitability via an interview with the course tutor.

What will I be learning?

This National Diploma in Vehicle Technology (Motorsports) provides you with education and training for employment in the vehicle maintenance and repair sectors, with specific attention given to the skills needed for you to work as part of a motorsports team.

Taught in a state of the art, well equipped, Automotive Training Centre the learning programme involves you studying both the theory and practical aspects of vehicle and motorsports technology.

The course consists of core units plus a choice of specialist units. The core units include; Motorsport workshop practices, engine technology, Motorsport vehicle preparation and inspection, Motorsport project. The range of specialist units available allows you to focus on your interests or explore new areas, including: steering and braking systems, vehicle fault diagnosis and rectification

How will I learn?

You will be taught in our modern workshops using the latest equipment, cutting edge electronic diagnostic laboratory, ITC suites and well equipped classrooms.

As you learn, you will be assessed in the workshop and by completing assignments for each unit which allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the technicalities of modern vehicles and motorsport practices.

What else might I want to know?

Enrichment activities include the opportunity for you to take part in exciting visits which have previously included: saloon car racing at Thruxton race circuit, Auto Sport International Show and taking part in a Britcar 24hr race as pit crew.

Opportunity to improve literacy and numeracy is given as Key Skills are an integral part of this qualification.

Students must note an additional cost will be charged for the provision of boots and overalls.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion you can hope to explore positions in the motorsports field such as motor vehicle technician, or motor vehicle body repairer/refinisher. With a suitable employer this can include progression to an apprenticeship.

With this qualification it is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.
