ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This new programme sets provides you with an Advanced Level qualification in the three allied areas of Health, Social Care and Early Years. This programme is an excellent choice for students unsure which area they wish to specialise in and provides a wide range of academic and vocational skills which employers and providers of Higher Education are looking for. This programme is the equivalent of three A Levels.

As part of our selection process you will be required to attend an interview where you will demonstrate your ability and commitment to working in the Health, Social Care and Early Years sector together with a satisfactory reference, which will ask for information about your behaviour, punctuality and attendance. To join our programme you will need to have:

.A Level 2 qualification or equivalent awarded at Merit level;
.4 GCSEs Grades A* - C including English
.A minimum of Level 2 Literacy and Level 1 Numeracy which will be assessed at interview;
.In exceptional circumstances where prospective students over the age of 19 do not meet the minimum qualification requirement, accreditation for prior learning and experience may be taken into account.

Croydon College is committed to supporting employability and developing excellence within the Health and Social Care profession. Units on the course require applicants to work with younger children. All applicants will be screened by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as this will help identify applicants who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.


PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities needed for work and learning and to achieve your full potential. This is a theoretical, practical and experiential programme designed and delivered to provide you with the skills you need to enter employment or progress onto the next level of study. You will study 18 units over two years:

Working to quality practice in care settings
Working with service users in care settings
Behavioural awareness in care
Applied practical care in settings
Advanced first aid and health and safety
Applied nutrition and dietetics for service users
Introduction to counselling skills
Coping with stress in care environments
Creative activities for groups in care settings
Behavioural psychology in health, social care and early years settings
Career planning for the health, social care and early years settings
Work experience in health, social care and early years settings
Understanding medical aspects of health
Anatomy and physiology for health and care
Care in the Community
Working with people with disabilities
Working in early years care and education settings
Child development

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to achieve GCSE Mathematics, English and a Human Science if you are required to do so.

To pass your programme you will need to have successfully undertake blocks of Work Experience in a range of settings in Year 1 and Year 2. You will have the full support of our specialist Work Placement staff who are both highly experienced Health, Social Care and Childcare practitioners and work placement supervisors.

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of your studies you have the option of seeking employment in the Health, Care and Early Years Sector or progression to an undergraduate programme at University or within Croydon Higher Education College or further specialist training.

ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Assessment will take the form of end of module assignments, individual and group presentations and an assessment of practical experience.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE You will have to undertake blocks of industrial placements throughout your programme.
