Pathway to Journalism
Level Three | Aireville Campus | Full-Time

Course Description
The communications industries make up Britains largest and most exciting employment sector. Career openings can be found in the ever-growing number of television stations, radio stations, magazines and newspapers, as well as in areas such as advertising, public relations and marketing. In response to this, we are delighted to offer this Pathway to Journalism, in conjunction with Trinity and All Saints University College. The pathway takes 2 years to complete and is equivalent to three A Levels.

Students have the opportunity to work on the college magazine and one week Craven College radio station as part of their course.

Course Content
  • A Level English Language/Literature,
  • BTEC National Certificate in Print
  • Shorthand (Tee line)
  • Work Placement

National Award in Print is made up of 12 vocational units, which could include:
  • Working as a Freelance
  • Print Technology
  • Photography
  • Production Project
  • Research
  • Writing and Editing Copy
  • Marketing and PR
  • Interview Techniques
Additional Qualifications Throughout the course you will undertake qualifications in a number of additional subjects, which could include: photography, design, IT and communications.

Career Progression
BA Journalism Degree at Trinity and All Saints, Leeds, or other university
Employment at a junior level within the journalism industry

Work Experience
Work experience forms a major component to the first year study, helping you to make industry connections and develop your professional skills.

Assessment
The A-Level is assessed using a combination of examination and coursework. The BTEC component(twelve units) is assessed continuously throughout the year by coursework.

Trips and Enrichment Activities
There is an art, media and performing arts annual trip - usually to London. Also through the year there are opportunities to visit various business and academic institutions.
