Summary:

The course is for learners who have the potential to achieve or increase GCSE grades or equivalent. It is for learners who may have been out of mainstream education and/or need individual support.

There are 2 routes through Phoenix Plus - GCSEs and BTECs. Information about the courses that we offer can be found on the following pages.

Applying for Phoenix Plus courses

To apply for any of these courses a college application form for Phoenix Plus should be completed specifying which route the young person is interested in. The application form should be sent to the admissions office at City College Norwich. The applicants will be invited to attend an interview with one of the Phoenix Plus team. If they are unsure which route to take we will be able to give them some more information and guidance.

Up to 5 days per week

Academic Progression:
When you have completed your Phoenix programme you may be able to progress to further Level 2 or perhaps Level 3 programmes.

Career Progression:
Many Phoenix students choose to go straight into employment after completing their programme.

GCSEs and BTEC Introductory Certificates on Phoenix Plus

Successful applicants will be able to take between 1 and 4 GCSEs over 1 year. Tutors will discuss the most appropriate route of learning with students. Acceptance on the programme will depend on a skills assessment and interview.

All students will be enrolled on Improve Own Learning and in addition we offer:

GCSEs

* English Literature and Language
* Maths
* Art
* Statistics
* Psychology
* Photography
* Science
* General Studies
* Media Studies


OR

Level 1 BTEC Introductory Diplomas

* Applied Science
* Health & Social Care
* IT Work
* Art, Design & Media
* Sport


Depending on the number of GCSEs or the BTEC course taken students may also have the opportunity to work towards the following qualifications:

* CoPE - Certificate of Personal Effectiveness
* Literacy
* Numeracy
* IT
* Wider Key Skills - Problem Solving and Working With Others


These can be taken at Level 1 and/or Level 2. These are the same level as GCSEs: a Level 1 qualification is equivalent to a grade D and a Level 2 is equivalent to A - C.

Students may also have the opportunity to achieve certificates in:

* Basic Food Hygiene
* Health & Safety
* First Aid


As each GCSE is taken in 1 year, students taking 3 or 4 GCSEs will not have time to work towards other qualifications.

An important starting point for this course is setting your own goals for the year. Our aim is to help you meet the targets you have set yourself and we will support you through the course in any way we can.
