This is a varied and exciting course which will develop your skills and awareness in the fundamentals of photography. The 18 units of the course cover a broad range of techniques and specialisms. Two of them constitute the final major project which is devised and managed by individual students working independently. This body of work is carried out at the end of the second year and is exhibited in the art & design end of year show.

About this course

A BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design (Merit Level) or at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. Prospective students should ideally have some basic photographic experience, through personal study or an evening class. All applicants are interviewed to determine the extent of their skills, their level of commitment, and their interest in photography.

Is this course for you
This course is firmly committed to the delivery of visual, technical, creative and professional skills that will enable students to enter commercial photography or to continue into Higher Education. Students will work with traditional techniques and processes using film and will also study digital techniques using quality equipment and Apple Mac computers.

How will you be assessed
Continuous throughout the course in the form of assignments, coursework, group discussions and tutorials.

What can you do after course
This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and successful students may choose to become employed in the Photographic Industry or to continue into Higher Education. This can be done on the Foundation Degree in Professional Photography at this College or on a Degree course at Art College or University.

Additional information
Termly visits to national museums and art galleries and an annual study visit to a major European city. Key Skills/Functional Skills - you will be expected to undertake these at the appropriate level.
