Physics
Why choose Physics?
In investigating the fundamental principles of how the universe works, physics is a fascinating study for the student with an inquiring mind. It is also the basis on which all forms of technology are built. Physics is taught in our new, purpose-built science accommodation which includes well equipped laboratories and a large project and resources area. All these areas have their own suites of networked PC's.

Key Features of Physics at Hills Road:
· A wide variety of teaching and learning styles, including independent study, practical projects and investigation activities.
· Use of supporting materials made available to students by a special national website, CD-ROM and a dedicated text book. (The IT facilities for this are available in College so it does not demand that students have access to a PC at home).
· Regular sessions in which students may obtain help as individuals or groups. Opportunities also exist for pursuing Physics beyond the scope of the examination syllabus.
· The course is sponsored by and developed in collaboration with the national professional body for this subject, the Institute of Physics.
· The course is designed to promote interest and research in the most recent developments as well as giving a sound foundation in the fundamentals of the subject.
· A very high proportion of students progress to courses in science, mathematics and related subjects.
· A dynamic robotics group has participated in international competition in Washington DC for the last five years.
· In the last three years 25 students have won prizes, including four gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the British Physics Olympiad and nine prizes in the AS Physics Challenge.
