Entry Requirements
GCSE grades D to F or a Foundation course or some experience in a relevant working environment. A good level of personal fitness and a positive attitude to discipline.

Course content
The BTEC First in Public Services is intended to develop your knowledge, understanding and the skills required for successful employment in Public Service at an operational level, or for progressing to advanced study e.g. Edexcel National Diploma in Public Services.
The six units of study cover the role of Uniformed Services and Careers within the Armed Forces, Emergency and Security Services, HM Customs and Excise, and Community Service organisations, and the skills required to perform the roles. Units include skills, service skills, fitness, sport and recreation, land navigation and crime and its effects on society.
There will be sporting outdoor activities and opportunities.
You will gain an overall qualification grade of Pass, Merit or a Distinction.

How Will I Be Assessed?
There will be one written assignment per unit and other assessments for practical and class-based activities. These will take the form of tutor observations, photographic, audio and video evidence etc. You will compile a portfolio of these assessments.

What Could I Do Next?
Progress to advanced programme of study e.g. Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Uniformed Services (merit or distinction preferred). You could also enter an armed service at operational level or other community based service.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
We will require students to purchase a Public Services hoodie at 22.00 and a polo shirt at 13.00. Some activities with armed services are subsidised, but there will be additional costs for some off-site sporting and outdoor activities. Other relevant certification may be included to enhance the course e.g. Sports Leader Award (SLA).
