Aim of course
The aim of the course is to provide a detailed experience of roofing for school leavers, anyone wanting to get a job in the industry or for those already employed in roofing who wish to gain a recognised qualification.

What will the course involve?
The course contains a mixture of theory and practical activity covering all aspects of the roof slating and tiling industry. Assignments and projects are an essential part of this course. Candidates aged 16-19 yrs will also study a Level 2 NCFE qualification and Key Skills in literacy and numeracy. Key Skills will be studied as an integral part of both the Diploma and NCFE qualifications.

Course Content
Areas of study include health and safety, concrete tiles, pantiles, plain tiles, slates and lead work and the opportunity to learn in a realistic environment with full size indoor and outdoor roofing rigs.16-19 year old learners will study an additional qualification (NCFE Creative Craft) which researches project management. An opportunity may be provided for you to learn some basic skills in thatching and also lead dressing and welding.As 16-19 yr old learners study two qualifications, you will attend college for four days a week, mature students only study the Level 2 Diploma and need only attend for two days (these days will be decided by the Course Tutor to ensure that all areas are covered).

What can I do afterwards?
On completion of this course you would be considered for a part-time Level 3 Diploma or NVQ 2 in Roof Slating & Tiling. As the NVQ is only assessed in the workplace, you would need to find employment with a company whose work covered all the required units of the NVQ.
