Stage Management BTEC National Award
This practical course will develop your understanding of the technical aspects involved in stage productions, and can be taken alongside a wide range of other courses. You will get an insight into the industry through working across an exciting range of technical projects, including sound (live and recorded), lighting, stage management and administering a production or venue. Productions could include children's shows, musicals, Shakespeare, large outdoor events and modern plays.

What will I study?
All students study two core units:

  • Production for Theatre Performance
  • Assistant Stage Management

You will then study four from the following units:

  • Deputy Stage Management
  • Stage Management
  • Stage Lighting Operations
  • Special Effects and Animated Props for the Stage
  • Scenic Construction



How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment of projects/assignments throughout the programme. These may include performances, presentations, practical or written work. Your Final Major Project will also be externally assessed.

What can I do next?
Combined with other courses, the Award in Stage Management could lead on to Degrees or Higher National Diplomas in Stage Management, Lighting and Sound and Stage Management at Universities, Colleges and Drama Schools. Combined with other qualifications, the National Award in Stage Management can also help you to progress onto other courses in Higher Education.
