MUSIC A LEVEL
Course Level :Level 3

Length of Course :2 years (you gain an AS level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A level after successfully completing Year 2)

Course Content
This course provides you with the opportunities to practice performance skills in solo and/or ensemble work, compose music in styles of your own choice and learn about the basics of harmony. At AS Level there are units in performance, composing, listening and understanding. Areas of study include: Instrumental Music, Vocal Music and Applied Music. In your first year you will complete a number of performances, compose music to a given brief, study and analyse the scores of set pieces of work and develop skills in harmony. Course Content: (Year 2) At A2 Level you will:
· Complete extensive performances, both solo and ensemble
· Create a portfolio of compositions
· Work on technical studies including Baroque counterpoint, Minuet for string quartets, themes and variations or popular song You will develop an understanding of aural analysis, music in context and continuity and change in instrumental music. You will be expected to bring your own instrument(s) to class.
