The Course
This course is designed to prepare people for working as a carpenter or joiner. It has been designed to develop and practise the required skills and obtain the necessary knowledge to work in the trade.

Course Content
The course assesses seven carpentry and joinery units and one external Health and Safety unit:

• Store materials and equipment
• Erect and dismantle basic working platforms
• Work efficiently
• First fixing before plasterwork
• Second fixing after plasterwork
• Floors and roofs
• Use portable power tools
• An external Health and Safety test is a compulsory part of the qualification and is required for the award of the Technical Certificate.

Assessment/Exams
Assessment is based on assignments covering both practical and theory aspects of the curriculum.

Progression/Career Path
The Level 2 Diploma prepares students for work in their particular occupation. This course provides knowledge of all aspects of carpentry and prepares students for entering employment or progressing on to the Level 3 Diploma and attaining NVQ qualifications.
