Overview
The PGDE in Further and Post-Compulsory Sector provides a recognised teaching qualification for those who wish to teach post-14 students. The course provides a route to Qualified Teacher in Learning and Skills Status (QTLS), which is equivalent to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The course is worth 120 credits at Master’s level. This reflects the course’s high level of engagement with educational research, theories of learning and the philosophy of teaching. As well and developing practical teaching skills, the course encourages students to engage with their practice and the sector in a critical and reflective fashion.
The PGDE provides the opportunity to follow a specialist route which gives you a named award in English Language, Mathematics or SEN.
The course offers excellent employment opportunities, particularly for those specialising in shortage subjects.
All teacher education courses at Liverpool Hope offer students the opportunity to combine a programme of theory with real world experience. Classes at the university campus focus on what underpins the work of an effective and successful teacher, while the educational placement offers you the opportunity to put theory into practice.
