This course is designed for those who have taken GCSE English Language very recently but need to improve their grade D to a grade C or higher. Your written English will already be at a high standard and you will be able to read and understand fiction and non-fiction texts with accuracy and confidence, identifying the techniques writers use to guide a reader’s response and applying some of these in your own work.

Entry Requirements
You must have already achieved a grade D at GCSE English Language in the last two years. All applicants must complete an initial assessment and would be expected to be working at level 2.
Delivery and Assessment
You will complete five controlled assessments, in class under exam conditions and these will include the speaking and listening activities as well as a response to a text you have read, a piece of creative writing and your study of spoken language. You will sit one written paper in which you will answer three questions, based on reading and writing tasks. Your teachers will guide and support you through this process, identifying your strengths and advising you on areas for improvement.
