For those students wishing to improve their GCSE Mathematics grade the department provides a one-year course. This course is aimed at students who have not achieved a grade C at School. This course represents a 'resit' in the sense that the content and style are similar to the GCSE course standard at school. Students will revise thoroughly work done at school and where appropriate,learn new work.

What Will I Learn on the Course?

Students will revise thoroughly work done at school and where appropriate, learn new work.
Courses Content and Method of Assessment
GCSE Mathematics covers:
- Using and applying number and algebra
- Shape, space and measure
- Handling data
There are modular exams in November, March and May/June, each with calculator and non-calculator exams. Students may be entered for the Foundation tier or Higher Tier at each module giving them an opportunity of gaining a grade B or higher.
After the Course
GCSE Mathematics at grade C or above is an essential requirement for many degree courses and jobs.
Students who achieve a grade C or above will have the opportunity to study Free Standing Maths Units in Year 2, which will provide them with the opportunity to obtain an AS in Use of Mathematics.
Subject Combinations
GCSE Mathematics can be taken alongside any AS, A Level or National course.
