Maths - Foundation GCSE



COURSE AIMS
To give students who are close to achieving a grade C in GCSE Maths the opportunity to raise their grade to a C and in doing so, to develop skills in number and data handling as well as wider mathematical skills in areas such as algebra, graphs and geometry

CONTENT
You will be studying the AQA Modular Specification based on the national curriculum. There are now 3 modules (numbered 1, 3 and 5) : (modules 2 and 4 used to be the coursework modules)

Module 1 Handling Data
Worth 18% of the total assessment Two 30 minute exams, one with and one without a calculator

Module 3 Number and Algebra
(Mainly number work at intermediate tier) worth 27% of the total assessment Two 45 minute exams, one with and one without a calculator

Module 5 Number, Algebra, Shape and Space
Worth 55% of the total assessment Two 1 hour 15 minutes exams, one with and one without a calculator

HOW WILL I STUDY?
You will experience a variety of teaching styles:
Formal
Individual with strong teacher support
Investigational
Use of computers
Smartboard

You will be able to monitor your work and progress with regular review sheets.

You will have 4 hours of timetabled lessons per week and you will be expected to put in another 4 hours study per week outside of lessons.
