The geographer studies and represents the organization of a territory in its dynamic, human and physical aspects. He analyzes the processes and modalities through which a certain portion of the earth's surface assumes a specific configuration according to the different relationships that are established, in historical periods, between man and the environment. He then translates his analyzes into projects of representation and improvement of one or more territories. He works in the field of geography, a science that has as its object the study, description and representation of the Earth in the configuration of its surface and in the extension and distribution of the physical, biological and human phenomena that interest it and which, interacting with each other, they continually change its appearance. Geography is much broader than cartography, that is, the study of geographical maps, or topography, adding to them the investigation of the dynamics and causes of the position of the Earth in space, of the phenomena that occur on it and of its characteristics. Although geographers are historically known as map-drawing people, map is actually the field of study of cartography, a subset of geography. Studying geographers is not only the physical details of the environment, but also its impact on human health, ecology, weather and climate patterns, the economy and culture. It is up to physical geographers to identify, analyze and interpret the distribution and geomorphological arrangement and other features of the earth's surface. Modern geographers are often involved in solving environmental problems. Many modern geographers are also major players in geographic information systems and cartography. They are often employed in state, provincial and municipal bodies, as well as in the private sector.
