The Global Health MSc is a pioneering teaching pathway that brings together students from a range of disciplines to understand and address significant health challenges. The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to critically reflect on health and healthcare in low and middle-income settings and apply this knowledge with supported practical experience within an international capacity.

The Global Health faculty has strong links with health partnerships in Somaliland, Sierra Leone and DR Congo, creating exciting opportunities for field research.
The course offers a broad range of global health expertise – from the School of Social Science & Public Policy to the four health schools and the three partner NHS Foundation Trusts.
Advanced teaching delivered through an innovative combination of interactive small group work, film, practical classroom tasks and observation in local health settings.
Combines the development of a strong interdisciplinary foundation in global health with the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in a particular subject area
Specifically designed to focus on specialist training, to network with relevant NGOs at an early stage and to meet the needs of people working in international agencies, humanitarian organisations, and NGOs.

Course programme
Year 1 Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 180 credits. Required Modules
You are required to study the following modules:
- Research Methodology (20 credits)
- Dissertation (60 credits)
Additionally, you are required to study modules totalling 60 credits from the following:
- Global Burden of Disease (20 credits)
- Poverty & International Development (20 credits)
- Health Systems and Policy (20 credits)
- Conflict & Health (20 credits)
- Global Health in Local Practice (20 credits)
You will then take the following modules relating to your study pathway choice.
Global Surgery Pathway
- Key Concepts in Global Surgery (20 credits)
- District Hospital Surgical Practice in LMICs (20 credits)
Health Professions Education Pathway
- Principles of Education for Health Professionals (20 credits)
- Health Professions Education in LMICs (20 credits)
Disasters & Adaptation Pathway
- Disasters & Development (20 credits)
- Community, vulnerability and disaster risk (20 credits)
Conflict & Security Pathway
- Security and Development (40 credits)
