Course programme

The programme shares the same ethos, core structure, strong emphasis on project work, high academic standards and offers exactly the same award certificate as the accelerated Manchester Global MBA, whilst offering more flexibility for busy executives who cannot commit to a fixed two year programme. Global business environment

The focus of the programme is on the fast changing global environment, transformation of technology, evolving environmental challenges and the complexity of the driving forces behind the world economy, which is delivered through Manchester Business School's unique Manchester Method, combined with various key projects and teaching excellence.
Structure

The Manchester Global MBA is divided into five semesters and a project stage.
Induction stage

You will begin with an online induction that will then be complemented with a compulsory face-to-face induction held on campus at Manchester Business School, or at one of our international executive centres. This is your first opportunity to meet teaching staff, your support team, and to network with fellow students. During this time you will also take part in your first workshop for the Leadership course.
Courses

The module stage comprises of 11 core courses and 3 elective courses . Each course is anchored in practical applications and problem solving bringing real benefits to you and your organisation, both during and after the period of study.
These will be delivered using a blend of self study, online learning, collaborative working and face to face workshops. These residential workshops will take place over a three day period at Manchester Business School or at one of our international executive centres, equating to 24 hours of face to face contact with the academics and your fellow business professionals per module.
Projects

The Manchester Global MBA epitomises the Manchester Method with its strong focus on the practical approach to learning and project work.
Group project

The group project draws on learning across different management disciplines. You will work in a small group comprising of four to six individuals on a change management situation, within one of the group member's organisations.
You will begin with an intensive business planning workshop where you will develop the data collection, planning and group working techniques needed to deliver a successful report and project outcome.
Personal project

The personal project will comprise of a 10,000 word dissertation on a subject of your choosing. It will normally take between 6-12 months, during which time you will be assigned an academic supervisor deemed an expert in your chosen field of research.
The personal project is an opportunity to focus on a management issue of interest or relevance to you or your organisation, enabling you to leverage corporate sponsorship.
Professional development

As a student and professional you will be expected to reflect on your learning, personal and professional development. The programme provides ample opportunities for you to do this - a structured reflective essay and completion of a personal reflective diary are used as focal points.
These are completed as you progress and are reviewed at the end of the project stages, to ensure that you are maximising your learning opportunities, and that the MBA is delivering the right outcomes. Workshops

You will be studying three courses every six months, two of which will have an intensive three day residential workshop in the UK or at one of our international executive centres. Workshops present a valuable opportunity to share learning with colleagues and to build up a global network of contacts.
This intensive learning opportunity is the highlight of the programme for many students and provides a minimum 24 hours of face-to-face contact per course. Courses without residential workshops will be complimented with online workshops that consist of online discussions, tutorials linked to a formative assessment.
Face-to-face tuition

The number of delegates in each workshop session is kept deliberately low, typically 15-30, to maintain their high quality and interactive nature. Workshop sessions are delivered by the same senior faculty who teach on the Full Time MBA programme.
We also draw on a pool of experts from outside the School who are considered as leaders in their particular fields. The sessions offer a minimum of 24 hours face-to-face contact for each course, which is more direct contact than many part-time on-campus programmes.
Workshops are a prescribed element of the course and attendance to at least 80% of the workshops is required. The workshops are continuously cited by our students as one of the highlights of their MBA experience.
Assessment

Students enrolled on the Manchester Global MBA will be assessed on the basis of examinations and continuous assessment, the latter comprising of two assignments at set points:
Assignments 50

Each module is taught using a blend of self study, web based learning, collaborative working and face to face residential workshops at Manchester Business School.
Each module will be assessed on the basis of two pieces of assignments, contributing 50% to the overall module mark. These assignments will either be on the basis of two individual pieces of written work, or one individual written assignment coupled with an assessed group assignment during the residential workshops.
The assessment method is determined by each individual module director and is based on optimising the student learning experience and reflection process - students will be informed of the assessment method for each module at the start of each trimester.
Exams 50

A three hour open book* examination, forms an integral part of our MBA course and carries 50% weighting towards the assessment of each module. Manchester Business School Worldwide operates a global network of exam centres, enabling students to take their exams at one of the many exam venues we have worldwide.
*A limited number of courses will not be open book
