You will explore a range of mixed media drawing materials and experiment with mono print, collage and the use of imitation gold leaf and coloured ink. Develop a personal sketchbook as a visual research resource, build simple models of spaces to use as inspiration for your drawings. A short introduction to colour theory is included. Every session will begin with an introduction to a specific method. The starting theme of the course will be ‘people in the city’.

About this course

• Use colour and tone in drawing more confidently
• Use mixed media materials to support your drawings
• Develop ideas from initial sourcing in your sketchbook
• Respond to a given theme
• Build a simple maquette to support idea development; to inspire a drawing or painting; to present an idea.

Basic materials are included in the course fee. You should bring an A4 hard-back sketchbook or sketchpad. Course programme

• Exploring mixed media materials to develop drawings

• Using a wide range of drawing tools
• Embedding texture in drawing

• Building simple models of spaces, using those as inspiration for your drawings.

Through demonstrations, practical activities, some visual research, talks/presentations, group discussions, individual tuition and feedback. You will be encouraged to research and record ideas outside of sessions and to use your sketchbook in class. The course will include one half day off site.
