The Ashmolean is the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683. Its world-famous, extraordinarily diverse collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art, with objects dating from 8000 BC to the present day.
This course will explore specific works from various period and galleries to give an overview of the depth and breadth of the collection.

Please Note - as we are not guaranteed access to the museum (school groups take precedence) please do not book any train tickets until this course is CONFIRMED by your tutor.

Course programme

• An overview of the history the Ashmoleon Museum
• Looking at a selection of key paintings in museum galleries
• An overview of the sculpture, ceramics and antiquities collections.

The course will be taught with a mixture of guided gallery visits and group discussion. Handouts will be provided by your tutor to support your learning on the course. Students will need to organise travel to Oxford independently, as this cost is not included. You may wish to bring a notebook. Gallery entry is free. Please note we are unable to guarantee stools in the rooms that we visit so you might have to stand and to walk between objects.
