Considering the life story, scientific contribution and legacy of some key people in the history of science, medicine botany and horticulture, in their historical context, with a chance to visit some of the places and plants they were connected with.
John Gerard (1545-1612)- visit to Barber Surgeons Hall Gardens and Barbican
Henry Compton (1632-1713)and a visit to Fulham Palace Gardens
John Fothergill (1712-1780) visit to West Ham Park, Stratford
Humphry Repton (1752-1818) with visit to Kenwood, Hampstead
Thomas Mawson (1861-1933) with visit to Hill and Pergola Garden, Hampstead.

Plants, medicine, garden design, landscape architecture, botanic gardens past and present, the history of plant identification, sites associated with these key botanists.
There will be a class and briefing session in the morning at City Lit and a visit off site in the afternoon of every day of the course. No work required outside the class. Entry charge to Fulham Palace Gardens to be confirmed - not included in course fee. Bring a note book and pencil, strong non slip walking shoes, raincoat and umbrella as visits take place what ever the weather .An oyster or travel card will be needed for the afternoon visits.Additional information
