Course programme

An Apprenticeship is a national work based training programme designed for individual industries. Apprenticeships are a great way of earning and learning at the same time.
The Apprenticeship scheme is divided into two levels ¿ Apprenticeship (A) and Advanced Apprenticeship (AA) depending on previous experience, ability and the job role.
Hairdressing Apprentices will learn by a combination of practical and theoretical assessments. Hairdressing Apprentices will attend 1 day per week at the Eden Salon, Portsmouth. The rest of the time will be spent learning on the job with their employer. Apprentices will build a portfolio of work and have on-site visits to observe their ability and skills in their daily role.
How long will the Apprenticeship take?

This depends on your motivation and the support of your employer. The Apprenticeship takes approximately 2 years to complete and the Advanced Apprenticeship takes 1 year to complete.
The course will include all basic skills needed to become a Hairdresser against the standards set by the Hairdressing Training Board (HTB) plus Health & Safety Awareness.
This includes a combination of 9 units for Level 2 & 3 including:
Reception
Shampooing and conditioning
Colouring
Perming
Cutting consultation
Style finish and dress hair using basic techniques
Diagnostics and Health & Safety

Optional units at Level 2 include:
Fulfill salon reception duties
Develop and maintain effectiveness at work

A Training Advisor will work with you and your employer to review your progress throughout the Apprenticeship.
Progress reports will be given to your employer by your tutors.
