About this course

A reasonable standard of English is required and you will be required to be employed in a hairdressers for at least 2 full days per week.
Access to a computer will also be beneficial.

Hairdressing Apprenticeship Level 2 (16-18)
Summary
You will be working in a realistic environment treating clients to a commercial standard. The methods of study are open learning packages and practical salon workshops.
About the Course
The course enables you to study the knowledge and understanding required to enable you to complete your hairdressing qualification whilst working in industry.
Generic Units
You will be provided with the understanding of your responsibilities concerning health, safety and security in the salon with a view to adhering to relevant legislations within the salon environment.
Theory behind consultation will be delivered in order for you to assist in the workplace and ascertain your clients individual needs with regard to the service they require.
You will learn the importance of how giving a positive impression of yourself and your employer will enhance your performance and promote the business.
Technical Units
Shampoo & Conditioning, Cutting, Styling, Colouring, Perming
You will learn the theory involved in ALL technical units, including angles (in relation to bones of the heade), function and structure of the skin, hair and hair follicle and chemical theory related to colouring and perming.
An understanding of assessing suitability of styles, cuts and colour for clients will also be learned.
You will also study Key Skills Level 2 Communication and Level 1 Application of Number.

How is the course assessed?
Practical - you will be observed in the workplace on all aspects of the qualification including client consultation and health & safety.
Written - by set assignment, tasks and client studies
Examination - on line for each unit
Oral - you will be questioned verbally
Are there any resources to obtain?
You will need to purchase a tunic which should be worn with black trousers or skirt, and flat, low-heeled fully enclosed shoes. Students may also have to purchase a Hairdressing Kit to use on the course.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
Are there any other costs?
See materials required - order forms for uniform and kit are available through college if required.
If it is necessary to resit the examination the fee is £20.60.
What facilities can be used on this course?
You will be provided with specialist facilities with up-to-date equipment taught by commercially experienced staff in a purpose built salon.
Learning Resource Centre is available for all students to use.
What next?
Progression to NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing whilst participating in the daily routine of a salon environment.
