Content

You will develop your basic hairdressing skills and assist stylists in the Define hairdressing salon including shampooing, conditioning, styling, perming, colouring, reception health and safety Science and Key skills will form part of your final qualifications.
Learning Styles
The course is built up of equal parts of both practical and theory and requires the learner to research and develop their own learning. Theory sessions will provide essential knowledge and understanding required. IT facilities are available for use in the hairdressing base room and in the Learning Resource Centre.
Assessment A combination of practical observation, assessment of practical tasks, assignments, written and oral tests and the compilation of a portfolio of evidence. Progression This course will prepare you for entry into employment at a basic level in local salons or for progression to study the NVQ 2 Hairdressing Certificate. Work Experience
Students develop skills in Define, our public hairdressing salon. However you are encouraged to work in local salons at weekends and the college may be able to help in finding such work. Any experience gained in this way can help the learner in speeding up their collection of evidence.
