HANDLING CHILDREN'S BEHAVIOUR SPECIAL NEEDS (2 DAY COURSE)

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is based on the materials of the Handling Children's Behaviour Course. The materials have been adapted for those professionals who work with parents/carers who have a child with special needs.

The aim of the training is to equip professionals to enable parents to understand and take control of their child's behaviour and improve their self-esteem and confidence. We work from the principle that children are children first, in terms of their behaviour and emotional needs, and their special needs are secondary.

During the two day course we train professionals in the use of this material and enable them to run their own 10 week course for parents. Following the training a handbook is made available with step by step guides on running each parent/carer session.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

This course aims to enable participants to gain a working knowledge of the Handling Children's Behaviour course. After successful completion of the course the participants will be qualified to run their own 10 week course for parents and produce programmes for individual families. The course aims to enable participants to learn by interaction and fun.

By the end of the course participants would be expected to have:

  • An understanding of the scope of the materials and its application in both groups and individual settings.
  • Familiarity with the Handling Children's Behaviour materials using practical exercises.
  • Knowledge of children's behaviour and how to provide a framework for handling that behaviour.
  • Adequate knowledge to set up and run Handling Children's Behaviour groups for parents/carers of children, and to use the materials within individual family units.
