What will I study?

Duration:
Two years

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
Social care themes and health themes will underpin the overall course. A variety of newly published texts will be recommended and a selection of course books will be available. Work experience - you will have the opportunity to experience work in a variety of health and social care settings with different client groups.

How will I be assessed?
This is by a combination, as follows: 1. Two-thirds internal portfolio assessment i.e. you will build up a collection of investigative research projects, reports and presentations. 2. One-third external assessment i.e. a mixture of case studies, short answer questions and investigations followed by questions.

What can I do afterwards?
The Applied A Level qualification will be accepted by a wide range of higher education courses. Health and Social Care has an excellent record as a route into many different jobs. These have included nursing, paramedical services, jobs allied to medicine e.g. occupational therapy, operating theatre technician, working with people with additional needs in residential care and in day care, working in family centres and finally centres for people who are homeless. Students often choose to study degrees in the areas of social policy, psychology and sociology and some choose to enter the teaching profession.

Are there any additional costs involved?
There will be a cost to students for a CRB check and a text book, this will be approximately £65.
