You will need to show a keen interest in health and care. You do not need any previous qualifications, however, you will be interviewed and a selection process is used. The course will give you the opportunity to improve your literacy and numeracy skills. Criminal Record Bureau checks are required.

What will I learn?
This course will appeal to those who have a keen interest in health and social care, who enjoy studying a subject relevant to their own lives and experience. It will suit those who want to work helping older people, people who have learning difficulties or disabilities, young people, as well as a variety of other vulnerable groups, in a social care setting. The course introduces various aspects of health and social care including: working in health and social care, looking after children, personal effectiveness, and exploring local services, communication and numeracy.

This course is taught through a mixture of lectures, group activities, discussions and practical activities.

You are assessed through a mixture of assignments and portfolio tasks, with a multiple choice test.

What could I do next?
For those who complete the course with a merit or distinction can apply for the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care. You will also have access to a range of careers and further education opportunities such as the Apprenticeships in health and social care.
