About this course
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs grade A-C or an Intermediate GNVQ / BTEC First Diploma at merit / distinction level, or demonstrate the ability to work at Level 2. You should have a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in health and social care, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. Criminal Record Bureau checks are required.

What will I learn?
The programme aims to prepare you to work in an non-supervisory or supervisory capacity in a number of health or social care settings. This course covers six compulsory units including: communicating in health and social care, vocational practice, health and social care services, psychology, sociology, and equal opportunities. These units underpin your study of health and social care. Work experience in a health or social care setting will provide you with the opportunity to learn about organisational structure, roles and responsibilities.
How will I be taught?
This course is taught through a mixture of lectures, group activities, discussions and practical activities.
How will I be assessed?
You are assessed through coursework assignments, portfolio tasks, with a multiple choice test. A one day a week work placement is organised by students, with the College's help. You must complete a minimum 0f 100 hours and achieve a Pass for your work experience for your placement supervisor.
What could I do next?
You could apply for a range of university courses including social work, nursing or midwifery, teacher training, psychology, occupational therapy and social policy. Many students choose to use their qualification to go straight into employment.
