About this course
You will need to have at least one of the following. BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject at merit level; Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject at merit level; at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C. In additon to these, all students must have either GCSE English A*-C or key skills level 2.

Course Content:
The course is made up of 18 units. 8 core units as follows. Developing Effective Communication; Equality, Diversity and Rights; Health, Safety and Security; Development through the Life Stages; Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology; Personal and Professional Development (worth 2 units); Sociological Perspectives; Psychological Perspectives. There are a further 9 option units.
The units are graded P (pass), M (merit) or D (distinction) however, you will achieve an overall grade for the full qualification, which will equate to UCAS points. This is a work related course, where you learn by completing vocationally related activities and assignments. All students will be required to have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
Progression:
BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers, universities and HE colleges. Students can go into careers such as social work, residential care management, housing and the probation service. If you want to get a job straight away, you could work in: registered care homes; housing; community work and the voluntary sector; hospitals and Primary Care Trusts. If you decide to continue in education, you could study a degree or BTEC Higher Diploma in: Health and Social Care; Managing Health and Care Services; Teacher Training; Social Policy.
