You will need to successfully complete the first part to go onto the full National Diploma. The programme covers many different aspects of health and social care. It is assessed through coursework assessments some of which are linked to work experience.
The Programme Content
On the full programme you will usually study between 18 and 22 units, approximately ten in each year covering subjects such as: Communication Skills; Equality, Diversity and Rights; Health and Safety; Psychology; Supporting and Protecting Adults; Caring for Children and Young People; Development through Life Stages and Physiological Disorders. There is also work experience both as a group and as an individual which will be linked to assignments. The BTEC National Award covers the first six units of the Diploma and includes working in real care settings, these include units on using communication in care and childcare settings, understanding equality and diversity including laws, and exploring health and safety and assessing risks to vulnerable people and children amongst others.

The main progression route from this programme is to a university programme (some of which are available at North Devon College).
