This modular Certificate of Higher Education; Health Care Studies is designed to enable Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to complete a recognised formal level four (CQFW4) qualification in keeping with the current Welsh Government initiative ‘Developing Excellence in Healthcare’ for a skills and career framework for HCSW’s. It is anticipated that these educational opportunities will enable HCSW’s to develop personally and professionally and may make them eligible for consideration for promotion to a higher band within the Knowledge and Skills Framework operating in the NHS or eligibility to apply for Pre-registration Nursing.

About this course
HCSW’s are required to be in healthcare employment and gain employer consent before applying to the College. Their clinical area of work must be an audited learning environment and have mentors that meet the NMC Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (2008). The HCSW need to have identified a mentor prior to commencing the Programme ents will be made jointly between the College and employer representatives and students will remain in paid employment to enable them to achieve the various competencies which form part of the assessment process.
