Health Informatics (e-learning) CPPD

• Overview

This module provides an introduction to the field of health informatics. The module aims to raise awareness of the ongoing activity within the NHS Modernisation Agenda, which seeks to improve information management for service delivery, healthcare management and research. You will have the opportunity to explore the ways in which information and communication technologies may be used to support these activities.

The module does not focus on technical issues per se, but rather on the ways in which care delivery, patients, clinicians and managers can benefit from these established and developing information systems.

The intention of this module is to allow you to understand the need for healthcare information, to recognise good quality information and to appreciate the application of informatics to your own practice.

The aims of the module are to:

• Provide you with a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, principles and applications of health informatics to contemporary healthcare practice
• Enable you to understand and appreciate some of the major developments in and applications of health informatics
• Encourage you to think beyond practical issues to the complexities underpinned by the management of the interface between strategies and systems, and between concepts and competences, and between processes and people
• Help you to develop a forward-looking orientation and make realistic speculation in relation to further developments.

This module can be taken as part of the BSc Nursing Studies top up degree. If you wish to complete a top-up degree, please apply directly on the Nursing Studies programme webpage. If you would still like to complete this module as a CPPD student but would like to complete a top-up degree at a later date, please note that you will only be able to transfer a maximum of 30 credits which have been awarded within 5 years prior to the start date of the programme (top-up degree). English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English, the following qualification is also required:

• IELTS: 7.0

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.
