Introduction In partnership with the University of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon College offers one of the UK's premier University Foundation Programmes for Overseas Students.
Course Units Course Structure The Business Studies Foundation Course has recently been revised and updated to provide a relevant framework for studies in business-related subjects. Mathematics is a very important element of the course. You will need to show ability in this area when applying and close attention will be paid to your progress. If appropriate, you will be able to study Further Mathematics apart from your programme course. You study five courses on the Programme. These are: Mathematics and Statistics Study takes place in classes and through extra self-study in the College Mathematics Resource Centre. Topics include Algebra, Calculus, Probability and Statistical Analysis. Economics Topics include the study of Economic Systems, competition and monopoly, an analysis of wages and labour and market institutions. The macro issues of inflation, unemployment and economic growth are also included. Business Studies Topics include business organisations, accounting, marketing and business law. In addition, attention is paid to the links between these specific areas and their relevance to the wider world of business. Sociology This course is common to both the Business Studies and Social Science Programmes. Topics include the study of basic sociological concepts, an exploration of the meaning of work, occupational change and gender and ethnic variations in employment. English and Study Skills This course concentrates on improving your English for academic purposes and general language, using relevant texts, articles and discussion materials. The course is assessed through examinations (70%) and coursework (30%).
Assessment For the four main subject areas, assessment is carried out through examinations (60%) and coursework (40%).
