In History, first-year modules provide a framework of historical approaches to prepare you for your second and final years where you can choose from a variety of study options, spanning geography and time, so your course can change as your interests evolve. These cover British, European, American, Asian and African history, enabling you to specialise in areas of pre-existing academic interest or to explore new and constantly evolving global histories.

Spanish language will be a core module in every year of study and this is complemented by a year spent in a Spanish-speaking country. Spanish is one of the most widely spoken and growing world languages, and this degree offers a programme of study leading to advanced skills in the language as well as literary, historical and intercultural competence.

We accept both beginners and students with some knowledge of Spanish, and in your first year we teach you in classes appropriate to your linguistic level. In addition to a language module each year, you complete a portfolio of modules exploring the literatures and cultures of the Hispanic world, often presented in comparative perspective.
