HNC/Certificate in Higher Education (CIHE) Equine Studies

Introduction
This course covers a range of subjects including equine science, business and practical modules. Equitation modules can provide essential training towards the BHS Stage exams.

In the second year of the course you will develop investigative skills by completing a work-based project on a subject of your choice. In line with industry, we strongly believe that you should gain theoretical knowledge and be able to put it to use in a workplace environment.

You will benefit from a range of delivery methods including lead lectures, seminars and tutorials. In addition you will enjoy off site visits to key equine centres and organisations, listen to influential guest speakers and attend prominent research conferences.

Members of our equine team are actively involved in equine based research, with opportunities for active student involvement.

Course Structure
The HNC/CIHE is made up of 10 modules.
Modules studied:
Year 1
  • Academic and Professional Development
  • Business Studies with Law
  • Equine Anatomy and Physiology
  • Equine Behaviour and Welfare OR Equitation I (must demonstrate riding proficiency)
  • Equine Industry
  • Work Based Learning 1



10 week placement

Modules studied:
Year 2
  • Equine Health
  • Finance
  • Work Based Project

  • Work Learning 2



*Please note that a 13 stone weight limit applies for riding modules

Length of the course

  • Part-time: 2.5 years. Attendance at college one evening per week, plus approximately 10 Saturdays per year
