About this course
To enrol on this leisure course, you will need to be aged 19 or over and have a keen interest in the subject. You may have studied a beginners class previously, or be joining a language class for the very first time. The course is ideal for those with a very basic knowledge of French (ie you can understand simple words and phrases and can get by as a tourist).

Introduction:
Our Adult Continuing Education (ACE) programmes are short leisure courses. They are ideal if you want to learn new skills, pursue an interest, have fun, and find out more about a particular subject without the stress of exams.
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the French language and culture, and is suitable for complete beginners. It will cover a variety of basic survival situations and provide you with the opportunity to practice what you learn throughout the course in role play situations.
Study Mode & Location:
This 10 week part-time evening course will last for 2 hours per week. It will be held at Broughton Learning Centre, Broughton Business & Enterprise College, Woodplumpton Lane, Broughton, Preston, PR3 5JJ.
Course Content:
You will start with a revision of the basic building blocks of the French language and go on to cover a series of useful topics, such as:
- exchanging personal information.
- shopping.
- understanding directions.
- leisure activities.
You will develop your vocabulary and learn new language structures, whilst following a course book. Emphasis will be on oral communication, with language activities based on authentic French materials.
Assessment:
There is no formal examination for this subject so a variety of assessment methods will be used.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This course can serve as a basis for starting or returning to more formal language courses, such as GCSEs. Alternatively, it can lead to other ACE courses or to OCNW (Open College of the North West) START or A unit courses.

We accept SOLO and major credit cards (eg Access, Visa, Switch, Delta) EXCEPT American Express. Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible.
