What qualifications will I need to study on the course?
As well as having a grade C in GCSE English you'll need at least 5 grades C at GCSE or equivalent.

What will I study?
The AS year will include topics such as 'Categorising texts' and involve analysing written material from a range of sources including newspapers and the internet.
You'll be looking closely at examples of spoken language and written texts, using new terminology and analytical techniques to examine these examples. You'll also look at aspects of language change, child language acquisition and in your second year you'll carry out a detailed piece of language research.

Method of assessment
60% exam and 40% coursework.

What will I be able to progress to?
This subject is very versatile - there are elements which will be useful in a range of Higher Education courses and jobs. If you're interested in Journalism, Drama and Theatre studies, Teaching, Media or Law you'll find elements of this course both interesting and useful.
