Course programme

Have you been inspired by the latest trend in home sewing, but not sure where to start? Then this is the sewing course for you. Working in small groups, of no more than 12, you’ll learn everything you need to be able to make clothes (top, skirt, dress or trousers) from a bought pattern.

This garment making course will begin by analysing your chosen pattern deciphering the markings and terminology. You’ll discover how to layout and mark your fabric correctly, before cutting out your garment pieces. Alongside this you’ll also be given an introduction to the professional industrial-standard sewing machines, where you’ll be shown how to complete several types of stitching in order for you to assemble your finished garment. With the guidance of the tutor you’ll work your way through the construction process to create a practice garment, altering as necessary to ensure a good fit. Once happy with your garment, you’ll be able to recreate it in the fabric of your choice (time allowing).

The course will include:

  • Taking measurements
  • Preparing fabrics
  • Laying and cutting
  • Marking
  • Sewing and fitting
  • Pressing and finishing

Level:

Beginners. You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.

Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking.
