Course programme

Why choose this course?

  • Person Centred Planning is central to all care and support plans
  • increased autonomy and choice may involve higher levels of risk
  • these risks need to be managed and agreed with the person still remaining central and engaged in the process
  • evaluation of capacity is essential to measuring the likelihood of risk and vulnerability
  • working with a person’s Circle of Support can be an effective way of minimising risk
  • care and support plans need to be consistently upheld, without being rigid or institutionalising and communicated to the person who is central to the plan in a way they understand
  • creative communication may be needed for the individual to be fully part of the planning process, and symbols, pictures, photos or audiotapes utilised to ensure this
  • CSCI and Supporting People will be monitoring both the process and outcomes of care or support plans
  • positive results ~ the individual understands the consequences of their actions, is able to use support to minimise risk and therefore has a higher level of opportunity with a lower level of vulnerability

Time: 9.30 – 4.30

Expected outcomes: by the end of the course participants will be able to

  • integrate a holistic risk assessment into Person Centred Planning
  • use a range of communication techniques to ensure that the individual is able to understand the relevant issues
  • measure their own and the user of the service’s coping mechanisms
  • evaluate a person’s Circle of Support and suggest ways of strengthening it

Nature of training:
Visual, as well as written communication will be used. There will be some lecture style input, small group work and sharing in pairs and the larger group.
